Behind Kate & Son: Why We Choose Every Piece Together

People sometimes ask how a mother-and-son team ends up choosing womenswear together. The honest answer is that it happened gradually, out of a shared habit of talking about clothes, fit, and what actually makes something worth buying.

Two perspectives, one conversation

Kate has spent years paying close attention to fit, fabric and the small details that make a piece feel considered rather than thrown together. Her son brings a different eye — more focused on how a piece looks in a photo, how it moves, whether it feels current. Neither perspective is more important than the other; the pieces we choose are usually the ones we both agree on.

What we actually look for

We're not trying to chase every trend. Before anything goes into the shop, we ask a few simple questions: would we be happy wearing this ourselves, does it feel like it will last past one season, and is it genuinely comfortable, not just photogenic. If a piece doesn't pass those three tests, it doesn't make the cut.

Still a work in progress

We're a young, small business, and we're upfront about that. Our collection is growing carefully rather than all at once, because we'd rather add a few pieces we believe in than a lot of pieces we don't.
